BASF Coatings' Bok Pot Challenge is guaranteed to win the hearts of their green-blooded South African customers, combining the nation's love for rugby, braai culture, and friendly competition in one unforgettable experience.
The competition, which takes the shape of a series of potjiekos cook-offs in which BASF customers participate in teams of two, was launched at the prestigious Pretoria Country Club on 7 July. Despite the crisp highveld winter conditions, the event generated tremendous warmth and enthusiasm among participants and spectators alike.

The aim of the competition is two-fold, creating a meaningful celebration that resonates with both heritage and community. On the one hand, it commemorates the 100-year anniversary of the beloved Glasurit Mascot, Rudi the Macaw – a milestone that speaks to the enduring legacy of this iconic chemical brand. At the same time, BASF hopes to foster deeper customer interaction in a fun, relaxed environment that moves beyond traditional business relationships.
The teams that braved the highveld winter cold on 7 July showcased the diverse range of BASF's customer base, including Dino Panel beaters, Extreme Autobody, German Motors, Thor Drilling, Saturn Autobody, PRBB Trailers, Inter-built Truck Repairs, Agri CAD and Senatla Panelbeaters. Each team brought their own unique approach to the traditional art of potjiekos cooking, creating an atmosphere of friendly rivalry and camaraderie.
Saturn Autobody emerged victorious on the day, walking away with not only the coveted bragging rights but also securing their position in the running for the competition's ultimate prize. The stunning overall reward, to be announced on 8 September, offers the winning team and their partners an extraordinary opportunity – a chance to see the Springboks play Ireland at the end of the year in Europe, combining two of South Africa's greatest passions: rugby and travel.
The competition will continue its journey across the country, with additional legs scheduled for Johannesburg, KZN, and the Eastern Cape, before culminating in a grand final in Cape Town on 16 August. Adding credibility and expertise to the proceedings, the competition is judged by renowned celebrity chef and Braai Master, Piet Marais, ensuring that culinary excellence remains at the heart of this unique customer engagement initiative.
