The African Association of Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM) was this year once again invited to attend the African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) Conference hosted by the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Abuja in late June.
AAAM’s was represented by Mpumelelo Mdhladhla from Volkswagen Group Africa, and the intention was to build on the success of AAAM’s participation at the 2023 conference in Kinshasa, where a set of technical and regulatory standards for the importation and sale of used vehicles was proposed.
Further progress was made at this year’s conference, which resulted in provisional alignment with ARSO regarding which countries could implement these proposals in the medium term.
The implementation of these proposals will ensure that the quality of used vehicles imported into the African continent complies with uniform safety and emission standards providing value and protection for the customers who purchase these vehicles.
Further details will be shared in the lead up to the next ARSO Conference planned for 2025.
