Toyota South Africa Motors has expanded its line-up with a model aimed at improving mobility for people with disabilities. The Toyota Hiace PWD (Persons with Disabilities) is based on the well-known Ses’fikile minibus but has been carefully redesigned to put accessibility first.

The vehicle includes an automated rear ramp that makes entering and exiting easy for wheelchair users. Built on the reliable 16-seater Hiace platform, this version offers three rows of original seating for nine passengers alongside a secure wheelchair bay positioned at the back. The occupant of the wheelchair sits comfortably in line with other passengers, as if occupying a fourth row.

Safety has been made a priority, with the wheelchair area fitted with front and rear restraints to ensure stability during travel. The ramp also includes a sturdy extension to allow effortless boarding, while folding neatly away when not in use so that the cabin remains spacious.

According to Tasneem Lorgat, General Manager of Marketing Communications at Toyota, the launch is about more than a new product: “With this introduction, TSAM affirms its commitment to creating a more inclusive transport landscape.”

Available on a customer order basis at R761 713, the Hiace PWD comes standard with a 90 000 km service plan covering nine services and a three-year or 100 000 km warranty, with further options available through Toyota’s dealer network.
